File readme1st_649.txt 2003/02/24 EKF Re: Windows Drivers for the CE2-HARMONY & CE1-MELODY IDE/CompactFlash CPCI Adapter ----------------------------------------------------------------- The CE2 board is based on the PCI-649 IDE controller chip, which was developed by CMD Technology. The original supplied drivers therefore can be found in the directory named 'cmd'. Since CMD has been bought by Silicon Image, there are newer drivers available from SI, which are contained in the folder named 'si'. All standard Windows systems (W9x, WNT, W2k, WXP) should work with the 649_NT4_3_0_101.zip driver package. Unfortunately there have been problems observed with the SI drivers when trying to access certain CompactFlash Microdrives or CFA Flash storage cards. As long as these issues do not affect your application, we would recommend to install the SI drivers nevertheless. However, if you encounter a similar issue, instead you should make use of the original CMD drivers. It could be necessary, to remove the SI drivers from your Windows system, before installing the CMD drivers. If your Windows hangs completely while the boot procedure is in progress, switch the systems power off, remove the CE2 board, and have the system boot again. Call regedit, and delete a key in the folder HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SYSTEM/CurrentControlSet/Services, which is named PnP64x. Shut down the system now, and reinstall the CE2-HARMONY. After booting, install the CMD drivers when you are asked for, instead of the SI drivers. There are no explicite WXP drivers in the CMD folder, but the W2k drivers work also with WXP (although there should be no need to use these drivers, because WXP comes already with suitable 649 support).
